Wiersema, James L. "Jim" 6/26/1940 - 11/26/2018 Richland, Michigan James Lyle "Jim" Wiersema, 78, of Richland, died Monday, November 26, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo. He was born June 26, 1940 the son of Hazel Scott Wiersema and Lisle Wiersema, both deceased. James was united in marriage on December 8, 1963 to former Martha Robyn. Jim is survived by his wife, Martha, of almost 55 years and three children, Jamie Wiersema (Springhill, TN), Kristi Zook (Greg, IL), and Jason Wiersema (MI). Jim was a proud grandfather to Zachary Dean Zook, Mitchell James Zook, and Madeline Grace Zook; a brother to Jackie Walters (Norman) and Becky Horrigan; an uncle to very special nieces and nephews; and good friend of Bill W. for over 35 years. His first business venture was a shooting preserve for pheasants with his friends, Gus Crane and Ron Holsted. Later, he became an electrician and project manager, retiring from Moore Electric of Kalamazoo. He served as building inspector for the Village of Richland for a number of years, a Director of the Building Exchange of the Kalamazoo Area (1980-1983), in addition to playing an active role when New Hope Church in Richland replaced their building. When Jim wasn't busy managing or helping someone with electrical projects, he loved bird hunting with amazing dogs, and everything to do with fishing. Jim faced death with faith, fully aware of the Chaplain and special friends, Phil and Alyssa King, who prayed with him. He said, "Amen," and "I'm ready to go," and was then at peace. Jim's church meant a lot to him, so the family is having a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at First Wesleyan, 14425 Helmer Road, Battle Creek. Any contributions can be made to the church, Hospice Care of South West MI (www.hospiceswmi.org), or your choice. We're also grateful to Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com
