Went to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, November 19, 2017. Jim was born November 25, 1930 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of the late Joost and Alida (Slegers) Vander Horst. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Jim and Carol founded the Chicken Coop restaurant in 1966 and dedicated it to the Lord's work with "Only one life will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last" in their hearts and every bucket they sold. His parting words were believe in Jesus and read your Bible! On May 2, 1952 Jim was united in marriage to his loving wife, Carol (VanWoerkom) who preceded him in death on June 12, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Len and Herbert. Jim is survived by his children, Scott (Karen) Vander Horst, Tom (Janie) Vander Horst, Sandie (Todd) Mejeur, Sue (Rick) Eshuis; and 12 favorite grandchildren; sisters, Anita (Paul) Ruimveld, Johanna (Marv passed) Niewoonder, Gertrude (Willard) Nieboer; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held Saturday 11:00 am, December 2 at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd. Food and fellowship will follow.
