James Merz

James (Jim) Merz, 80, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017, in Allegan, Michigan. After 42 years of marriage, I lost the love of my life, Jim Merz, who was born in Chicago, Illinois, 1936, the son of the late George and Bernice Merz of Bloomingdale, Michigan, he is preceded in death by his brother Joseph Merz of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and sister Margaret Haas from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jim is survived by his wife, Goldie Merz, of Allegan, Michigan, his daughter, Susan Merz, West Palm Beach, two sons, Dan Merz of West Palm Beach, and Larry Merz and his wife Deanna Merz from Shelbyville, Michigan, stepson Troy Boven and his wife Shilow from Lebanon, Missouri, his grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, Nick, Jordan, Brooklyn and Katie. As a young man, he worked at Gibson Guitar Co. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as an inspector. He was an accomplished guitar player, having his own band back in the 60s and 70s. His passion was playing guitar and singing, he loved good music. At 24, he learned to fly and earned his pilots license. Later in life he opened his own business in electronic repair, until he retired. Cremation has taken place, there will be a private time of remembrance at a later date. When two people have loved each other, they live the only part of life that matters. Death can't change that. He is forever in our hearts.
