Jack Hossink, age 70, formerly of Vicksburg, Michigan, passed away in Ormond Beach, Florida on Thursday, August 23 after a seven month battle with liver cancer. Jack was born in Holland, raised in Zeeland and graduated Creston High School in Grand Rapids. He attended Grand Rapids Junior College and then enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1970. Jack returned home and transitioned into civilian life, embarking on a career in the HVAC industry. Jack attended Ferris State University graduating with honors with an Associate's degree in HVAC. Jack founded Professional Burner Service in Vicksburg and successfully operated it for 26 years. He closed the business to relocate to a warmer climate and taught HVAC at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, South Carolina. During his six year tenure, Jack served as Department Chair, receiving numerous awards including the Certificate of Excellence as a Master HVACR Educator (CMHE). He was very proud of his time at the school and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with his students to make a positive change in their lives. Jack was an active member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) for forty years serving as the Education Chair for the state of Michigan association. Jack was an avid pocket knife collector, building themed displays for his ever-growing collection. He retired in 2014, relocating to Ormond Beach, Florida spending his final years in what he called "paradise." He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mary Hossink, and his son, Jerry Hossink. Jack is survived by his wife, Lori; his brother, Don (Glyndon) Hossink and his sisters, Linda (Max) Ellenbaas, Virginia (Howard) Smith, Amy (Bob) Bol; his children, John (Kristin) Hossink, Jeff (Kristen) Hossink, Jamie (Andrea) Hossink and Juliet (Jeremy) Johnson as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to the Jack Hossink Memorial Scholarship at Central Carolina Technical College to assist students in need pursuing an HVAC education.
