Clysdale, J. Patrick J. Patrick (Pat) Clysdale passed away on September 24, 2020 in Grand Rapids (formerly of Kalamazoo) with his family at his side. He was 91. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Marilyn (Gill) Clysdale, and will be dearly remembered by his children, Pam and Matt Means, Tim and Linda Clysdale and Jane and Gerry Feldman; and his grandchildren: Lauren, Kayla, Madeline, Patrick, Rebecca, Natalie, Camille, Olivia and five great grandchildren. Pat was born in Detroit on July 20, 1929. He graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1947. Following high school, Pat attended Western Michigan University from 1947-1951, and received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He played basketball and football, lettering in both sports in 1949 and 1950, while captaining the football team in 1950. Pat served in the United States Army from 1953 through 1955 in Maryland. Following his army stint, Pat moved back to Michigan and coached basketball and football while teaching at South Haven High School. He then took a similar position at Allen Park High School before returning to his alma mater, WMU. His career at Western spanned over four decades. Pat was a coach, administrator and teacher. Ultimately, teaching remained Pat's foremost passion. In 1989 Pat was inducted into the WMU Athletic Hall of Fame. In light of Pat's deep allegiance and dedication to Western, his family has established the Pat & Marilyn Clysdale WMU Student Athlete Scholarship.
