Hilda Katz Slosberg passed away the morning of November 27, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI, surrounded by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She began her career as a social worker until she chose to stay home to raise her 3 children, Eric Joel, Laurie Lynn, and Cindy Ellen. Once the children were older, Hilda worked as the Director of Fishtown Library of Philadelphia, from 1974 until she retired in the early 1990s. She developed the Fishtown branch from a small community library, tentatively scheduled for closure, to a thriving community center. Hilda was fondly known at the library as the "Queen of Homework". Hilda was married to the late Earl Slosberg for 21 years, and was mate of her beloved Arthur Glass in Bryn Mawr, PA, until his death. Hilda was preceded in death by her mother Ella Katz, her father Morris Katz, her sister Nancy Saviet, brother -in-law Stanley Saviet, and 1 nephew Robert Saviet. She is survived by her 3 children and her 9 grandchildren: Daniel Durwood (Linha Ng) Slosberg, Sarah Mauldin Slosberg (Michael) Tayter, Deborah Ann Slosberg (Sean Watkins), Erin Kimberly O'Brien Miller, James William O'Brien, Mackenzie Madeline O'Brien, Jennifer Ann Czocher, Michelle Diane Czocher, and Amanda Lee Czocher; there are 7 great grandchildren in the Slosberg clan: Emma Sue Tayter, Selena Coleen Slosberg, Hannah Caroline Tayter, Rebecca Morgan Slosberg, Mira Elizabeth Tayter, Athena May Watkins-Slosberg, Norah Ann Tayter, and 1 on the way, and 3 great grandchildren in the O'Brien clan: Gavin James O'Brien, James William O'Brien, Oliver John O'Brien. Hilda has been a rock and an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing her. She has given the entire family a sense of culture and roots, respect, and responsibility, as well as the incentive to strive for excellence. Private services are being planned.
