Henry Hoekman, age 88, of Kalamazoo, MI went home to his heavenly father on Nov. 4, 2017. Surviving are sons David Hoekman and Kenneth Hoekman, grandchildren Benjamin, Nathan and Jenae Hoekman, brother Steven (Jeanne) Hoekman, in-laws Sue and Archie Naugle, Marge Kokmeyer, Trena Mick, Marshall Bradley and many nephews and nieces. Henry was preceded in death by his wife Jennie, his parents John F. Hoekman and Dirkje (Bergakker) Hoekman and siblings Freida (Pete) Muilenberg, Katherine Hoekman, Dick (Cora) Hoekman, Fred (Evelyn) Hoekman, Peter (Sue) Hoekman and John (Darlene) Hoekman Jr., in-laws Art Mick, Jerry Mejeur, Al (Maxine) Mejeur, Alice Jean Bradley, Uko (Grace) Mejeur and Bill Kokmeyer. He was born in New Holland, South Dakota. He graduated from New Holland Christian School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from the cabinetmaking course at Pine Lake Vocational School. He worked at several lumberyards, Brunswick Corp. and Upjohn. He was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder. Henry loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family and his friends. A natural musician, he loved to sing and play his guitar and harmonica. He was a master woodworker. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday at the chapel. Graveside services will be held 2 o'clock Friday in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association, or to the Calvin Theological Seminary.
