Henry Ekema

Ekema, Henry L. Kalamazoo, MI Henry Leonard Ekema, age 92, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 17, 2019. He was born January 8, 1927, in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Medema) Ekema and had been a lifelong area resident. Henry was a devoted member of Immanuel Fellowship Church where he served as elder and Sunday school teacher. He retired from Consumers Power Company after 37 years of service. On June 9, 1950, Henry married Alice Doorlag who preceded him in death on January 16, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond Ekema and an infant grandson, David Woolley. Henry is survived by four children, Luann (James) LaRoy, Lynette (Donald) VanderMeer, Stuart (Alice) Ekema and Gale (Mark) Woolley; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm on Friday, March 22nd at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private interment will be held in Alamo Center Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday March 23rd at Immanuel Fellowship Church, 6015 West H Avenue, with Pastor William Boekestein officiating.
