Hazel Rhodes

Hazel "Lucille" Rhodes, age 94, of Portage, MI went to be with her Lord, Tuesday evening, September 12, 2017. Lucille was born June 17, 1923 in Reedsville, WV the daughter of the late Otto and Bertha (Born) McKinney. She was employed for 13 years with the Upjohn Company and was a member of Lake Center Bible Church. Lucille enjoyed crocheting and was known as the "Hat Lady" at Bronson Hospital where she crocheted nearly 3000 hats for newborn babies. She also enjoyed clowning and spending time with her family. On December 29, 1944 she was united in marriage to her loving husband Harold Rhodes who preceded her in death on November 6, 1972. Lucille was also preceded in death by an infant son, David; her brothers, Bill and Glenn; and a sister, Sarah. She is survived by her children, Sheldon (Victoria) Rhodes, and Lila Rhodes; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise (Glenn) Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 6-8pm Thursday evening, September 14 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre where services will be held at 11:00am Friday, September 15. Interment will follow in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or Jest Kidding, Inc.
