Harriette Berndt

Berndt, Harriette E. Pine Lake, MI Harriette E. Berndt of Pine Lake, MI, passed away peacefully with her daughters present on March 16, 2017. She was born on June 6, 1937 in Kalamazoo where she grew up and spent much of her life. Harriette received her Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. Following her love and dream of working with children, she chose a life in education serving as a teacher of young children. She retired from Kalamazoo Public Schools. Harriette enjoyed bridge, golf, bowling, and boating with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting, doing crafts and making decorative cakes. On June 10, 1960 she was united in marriage to Raymond G. Berndt, who preceded her in death on December 28, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother, George Howe and parents Edgar and Evelyn (Heisler) Howe. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law; Julie Berndt, living in Ohio, and Pam and Michael Myatt of Portage, MI, sisters Helen (Pete) Sprecher and Ernestine Renner and brother Michael (Dee) Howe. Join us to celebrate Harriette's life on Saturday, March 25 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Visitation begins at 1:00pm, with the Funeral Service at 2:00pm with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Reception will follow the service.
