De Haan, Harold Kalamazoo Mancelona Harold DeHaan, age 89 of Kalamazoo and Mancelona, died on Thursday June 30, 2022. He was born March 15, 1933, in Comstock, the son of John DeHaan, Sr. and Anna (DeVries) DeHaan. Harold was a hard worker from an early age, working in the celery fields in Portage. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean War. For 43 years, Harold was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Kalamazoo and very much enjoyed snowplowing. His love of machinery was known by everyone around him. On March 31, 1967, he married Leona (Montague) Ulrich, and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2022. He was a member of Third Reformed Church/Centerpoint Church in Kalamazoo and Bear Lake Christian Church, near their home up north. He enjoyed woodworking and making lawn silhouettes and birdhouses. He liked gardening, fishing and hunting. The sunroom was a favorite spot where he could birdwatch. Harold faithfully read his Bible daily, with a goal of 20 pages a day, which allowed him to read the Bible through 2-3 times a year. Surviving are his sons: Doug (Sue) DeHaan and Jeff DeHaan; his step-son, Rick (Debara) Ulrich; his 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his 3 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, 1st Lt. Todd DeHaan; and his brothers and sisters, Angeline DeBoer, Johanna Dekker, John, Jr., Egbert, Ralph, and George DeHaan. Friends may visit with his family on Wednesday, July 6 from 1:00-2:00pm at Centerpoint Church, 2345 North 10th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00pm. A private graveside service will be held in West Cooper Cemetery. Donations may be made to Centerpoint Church. Please visit Harold's personalized online guestbook at https://www.langelands.com
