Glenna Fountain

Glenna Aileen Fountain of Sun City, AZ passed away on Mother's Day May 14, 2017 at the age of 96 years. She was born on March 24, 1921 in Belding, Michigan. As true for so many in her generation, her early years were shaped by the Depression and World War II. She was born of city people, but had fond memories of the farm where her family moved to survive the years of unemployment and poverty. She graduated from Cleary College of Business and attended Central Michigan University where she met the love of her life H. Ward Fountain. Ward predeceased her on February 7, 2017 after 73 years together. Glenna's life revolved around her home, family, and friends. She was a lifelong loyal helpmate to her husband. In addition to maintaining a home, she helped him with his early dental practice and later proofed and prepared his papers and correspondence. They had three children and she was a lifelong advocate for them. She encouraged each child to reach his or her potential and was always there with a helping hand or a supportive word. She loved all aspects of domesticity, but especially the culinary arts. She was fond of entertaining of all kinds: from elaborate dinner parties for friends or her husband's colleagues to hosting foreign students for extended stays in her home. She was generous to all of her time. In later years she developed strong interests in gardening and flower arranging. She loved Asian arts and crafts and was noted for her collection of Bonzai trees. She was an inveterate shopper and appreciated fine jewelry and attire to the end of her life. Travel both before and after retirement was another favorite activity in which she involved the family. Later she and Ward traveled the world on many trips. After Ward's retirement they experienced eighteen wonderful years living on a palm tree studded lake in Sun City, Arizona. In 2003 she and Ward moved into Royal Oaks Life Care Community in Sun City and enjoyed the amenities, many friends there, as well as frequent visits by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenna is survived by a son James of Naples, Florida, a daughter Julie of Missoula, Montana, a son Jeffrey of Columbus, Ohio as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Glenna was a loving mother and generous friend to all whom she met. She will be missed by her family and friends. Sun Land Memorial
