Life Story / Obituary

Print

Born in Milwaukee, WI June 7, 1931. Born to Eternal Life March 23, 2018. Greeting her there was her loving husband, Frank LaVora; her parents, John and Elsie Gruenwald; her step-son, John LaVora as well as her brothers and sisters. Gertie is survived by her children: step-son Bernard LaVora, son Jerome (Nancy) LaVora, daughter Pamela (Mario) Taormina, son Frank (Debbie) LaVora, daughters Virginia (William) Gerlach, and Lisa (Michael) Monville, and son Michael (Tammy) LaVora. "Big Nana" to a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also her loving sister-in-law, Marie (Walter) Piel. Loved and remembered by many relatives, friends, and co-workers, especially her buddy Georgia.

Gertie, affectionately known as "Guido," worked at Solly's Coffee Shop in Glendale, WI for 42 years. She loved watching Brewer's baseball, Buck's basketball and Packer's football on TV, loved taking in a live game at least once a year with her son Frank at Miller Park. Enjoyed her game shows on TV and loved the slots and bingo at the casinos and playing card games with her kids on holidays.

The LaVora Family would like to extend its gratitude to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and aides that took care of Gertie at Froedtert Hospital, especially our "adopted" little sisters Kimberly T., Brianna and Andrea and our fun little aide Sidney, who's gift of her angel pin to our mom watched over Gertie to the end. We would also like to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice Inpatient Facility in Waukesha for their loving care to both our mom and her visitors in her last days.
