Gerald Vels

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019 Henry Gerard Vels passed from his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior. Gerard was born on April 13, 1960 to parents John and Ida Vels, who survive. He graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1978. After completing High School he went on to work at Lynwell Coffee Service, completing his work there in May of 2018. Gerard's hobbies included; classic cars, woodworking, cooking and years of league golf with his buddies. He also enjoyed family gatherings and was proud of his Dutch heritage. Preceeding him in death were his beloved niece and nephew Anneke and Landon Vels. Besides his parents Gerard is survived by his son, Garrett (Portland,OR); sister, Sharon (Tim) Dykstra; brother, Pete (Laura) Vels; nephews, Ben (Bradi) Dykstra, Alex Dykstra (Bellingham, WA), Jonathan (Kristen) Vels; great-nephew, Noah and great-nieces, Eleanor and Avy Dykstra, all affectionately calling him "Uncle G". Donations in remembrance of Gerard can be made to: Heritage Christian School in memory of Anneke and Landon Vels.
