With his loving family by his side, Gerald G. “Jerry” Sackman, age 82, passed away peacefully early Wednesday December 21, 2016 at his residence. Gerald was born in Racine on November 7, 1934, son of the late Andrew and Edna (nee: Hamilton) Sackman and was a lifelong resident.

Following graduation from Washington Park High school “Class of 1953”, Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army. On June 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Loretta Niesen at St. Edward Catholic Church. Together they owned and operated Paris Royal Cleaners. An active member of St. Rita Catholic Church, Jerry served on the Board of Directors. Known as “Mr. Jerry” to all of the students, he also volunteered as a tutor at St. Rita school for twenty five years. Always involved in the community, Jerry volunteered with Toys for Tots for seventeen years, was a member of the Jaycees and Roma Lodge, and served as director of the Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps for five years. In his spare time, he enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting. Above all, he treasured his time spent with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty five years, Loretta; ten children, Michele (Steve) Bachmann, Jerry (Lisa) Sackman, Wendy Sackman, Stephanie (Drew) Charpentier, Chris (Aimee) Sackman, Heather (Will) Schreiner, Dominic Sackman, Nichole (Anthony) DeBaker, Danielle (Jeff) Jaeckle, Angelo (Heather) Sackman; 22 grandchildren, Jeff, Lexi, Liz, Laura, Amanda (Cory), Jake (Joy), Jessie, Kathryn, Joshua, Faith, Jonathan, Lauren, Will, Luke, Hannah, Colton, Parker, Jisela, Julius, Jianna, Addison, and Logan; 3 great grandchildren, Mikayla, Nevaeh and Jaxon; siblings, Shirley Castroreale, Nancy (Angelo) Casciaro, Patrick (Betts) Saccomandi, Thomas (Kathy) Sackman, Toni Veronick, Diane (Richard) Price, Greg Sackman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carol Obernberger, Frances Cullen (Gary Weiss), Deanna (Dennis) Rybarik, Gil (Casey) Niesen, Arlene (Don) LoPiccolo, Jill Niesen (Lynn McMunn); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Greg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue, on Thursday December 29, 2016, 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Rich O’Leary officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.
