George E Wilson, age 79, of Empire, died February 5,2016.

George graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing where he was a championship wrestler taking the state title in 1954.

George went to trade school and became a journeyman/electrician with IBEW 665 in Lansing and later became the business agent for that Union. He retired from there in August of 1996.

After retirement he was involved in various duties with the Glen Lake Fire Board, the Leelanau Solid Waste Council, Empire Township Board, the Empire Zoning Committee, Eagles Club of Empire, the Lions Club of Empire. George was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Aggie (Esther) Wilson of Empire; sons, Steven (Sandy) Wilson of Florida, Brian (Cindy) Wilson of Tennessee; sister, Jensine Sterba of Detroit; sister-in-law, Patricia (Mike) Ostrander of Grant, brother-in-law, Danny Hicks of Lansing. He is survived by two grandchildren, Janice (Chris) Dougherty, and Nicole (Mike) Dyer and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Louise (Wait) Wilson and a son, Leonard Wilson.

A big thank you to the Grand Traverse Pavilions staff for the excellent loving care of George.

The family wishes to thank all who called and helped out during this time.

Memorial Services will be held 11am, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Empire United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends starting at 10am. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Empire.
