Age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 14, 2019, after seeing his Guardian Angel who came to take him home. George was born in Benton Harbor, on November 11, 1930, to the late James and Esther Morrett. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. Upon returning home, he lost his beloved mother. He met a striking brunette named Rosemary, who caught his eye and would become the love of his life for the next 45 years until her death in August, 2001. He worked as a salesman for Phillip-Morris from 1957-1987, and Chief of Police in Galesburg from 1985-2000. He was also on the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Posse for many years. George enjoyed making special memories with his family including watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights; Sunday rides with Brenda where they shared many stories and weekly shakes and coffee with Liz. He enjoyed bartending at Aries caf and loved socializing with people. His hobbies included dancing, country music, piloting and traveling. He was a member of the VFW and the Sons of Italy. He was proud to be the author of the book, Life and Death on the Red Arrow Highway. George leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. He is survived by six children, Kathie Goodnoe, Michael (Lori) Morrett, Brenda (Doug) Miles, Julie vanRavensway, Elizabeth (Michael) Campbell and Laura (Bill) VanderKlok; eight grandchildren, Sean, Brandon, Derek, Benjamin, Dana, Arie, Emily and Andrew; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Devore; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher; son-in-law, Bob vanRavensway; two brothers, James and Richard Morrett; sister, Alta Essig. George will be laid to rest on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, beginning at 10:30 AM (please arrive at the assembly area by 10:15AM), followed by a gathering to commemorate his life from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gull Prairie Apartments Club House, 4350 Gull Prairie Dr. Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
