Bartlett, Gary R. 2/21/1934 - 3/4/2019 Holland, Michigan Gary Bartlett Age 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 4, 2019. Gary was born February 21, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lansing, Michigan and attended Taft College in Taft California. In April of 1955, Gary married Marilyn Meyers, the love of his life. In 1960 Gary and Marilyn moved to Holland. It was there that he opened the first of many "Downtown Discount Store" locations throughout Michigan and Indiana. Gary was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Gary was happiest spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing which he did often with friends and family. He was a man of strong integrity who set a wonderful example for his family. He was a source of strength and support to all those he loved. Gary was preceded in death by Marilyn, his wife of 61 years and by their infant daughter Beth. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his children Jodi and Brian Boeve of Holland, Dan and Lisa Bartlett of Grand Rapids, Kelly Lurges of DeWitt, Brian and Lisa Bartlett of DeWitt; ten grandchildren, Taryn and Mark Tenhor, Ryan and Sara Armstrong, Lindsay Bartlett and Patrick Pantelis, Ross and Erin Bartlett, Tyler and Erin Horton, Carly, Lesley and Holly Lurges, Drew and Evan Bartlett; brother Paul and Tari Bartlett, sister Julie Lonsberry-Webb and Doug Webb and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 171 West 13th St. Holland with Father Charlie Brown officiating. Internment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mayo Foundation.
