Garret Kalamazoo Went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, November 1, 2021. Garret was born in Kalamazoo on November 23, 1928, the son of the late Hemmo and Cora (DeVries) Mejeur. Garret was a man of deep faith and was a charter member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon, elder and adult Sunday School teacher. He also served on many church committees, including the Building Committee. Garret was a skilled carpenter and home builder. On April 28, 1948, he married the love of his life, Irene Evelyn Kiel, who preceded him in death on November 6, 2011. Garrett is survived by three daughters, Sharon (John) Wagner, Susan (Bruce) Jepkema and Sandy (Scott) Mulder; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Garret was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Shirley Mejeur and four sisters, Anne DeVries, Ruth Kuiper, Renetta Jager and Emma Brinks. A memorial service to celebrate Garret's faith and life will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024, with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. For everyone's safety, the family requests that masks be worn and social distancing be observed during the visitation and service. Private interment will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park – South.
