Fred Wood, age 65 of Northport, MI, formally of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away at home on Sunday, September 13, 2020 after a brief illness. Fred was born in Detroit, MI on January 29, 1955 to Dwain Wood and Barbara Potrykus. At an early age, the family moved to the Kalamazoo area where Fred remained until 2017, when he moved to Northport, MI, with his wife and best friend of 40 years, to enjoy their retirement. In 1986, he married Carol Schuldt Wood who survives. He is also survived by his children- Danielle Koppers, Andrew Wood, Jodie (Matt) Corliss, Scott (Stephanie) Kinney; 9 grandchildren - Ava Koppers, Gina (Sayge) Poindexter, Elaine Wood, Andrew Wood, Jessica Beadle, Ryan Beadle, Matthew Corliss Jr, Taylor Corliss, Melissa (Mike) Jones; 1 great-grandchild Harrison Jones. He is also survived by a sister Cindy Feher and brother-in-law Brad (Cheryl) Schuldt and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents Dwain and Barb Wood; sisters Laura Porter and Shelley Sharples; brothers-in-law, Carl Porter, Ed Sharples and Dennis Feher; and father and mother in-law Eugene and Pam Schuldt. Fred loved his job as a journeyman pipefitter, working for over 25 years at the papermills in Parchment, MI until their closure. In 2001, he joined the UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, Local 357 and remained there until his retirement in 2014. Fred loved racing and spent many years driving stock cars at Kalamazoo Speedway and Hartford Speedway Park and later helping wrench on the cars of Scott, Matt, Ryan and Matthew Jr. Fred was a jokester and if he was picking on you, you knew he liked you. He liked to laugh and have a good "Miller Time." In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration gathering is planned October 3, 2020 from 2-5 p.m. at Jodie and Matt's barn, 9323 W F Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to Munson Hospice, 1105 Sixth St, Traverse City, MI 49684.
