Age 81, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's disease on March 30, 2018. He will be remembered as a dedicated Episcopal parish priest, a college instructor, an inquisitive thinker, and a jovial and spirited family man. Born in 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, "Fritz" LaCrone was the youngest of two children born to Fred and Margaret LaCrone. He attended State High School and then Michigan State University, where he met and married Peggy Munce in 1958. After seminary, Fred served in Niles, MI and Ludington, MI. Later moving to the Cincinnati area he served at St. Thomas and St. Stephen's Church before moving South in 1981 to Grace Episcopal Church, West Palm Beach, FL. Fred served as rector of Grace Church for 17 years, overseeing the establishment of Grace Episcopal Day School and numerous outreach programs. He retired from Grace Church in 1999 and obtained his fourth degree, enabling him to embark on a second career teaching English, Literature, and Drama at Florida Atlantic University. In 1994, Fred married JoAnn "Jodi" Gooding. Fred and Jodi built a life in West Palm Beach and later Tallahassee, Florida. They were actively involved in lifelong learning, church activities, and travel over the last years of his life. Fred was an inspiring preacher and teacher who brought a passion for social justice, acceptance and thoughtfulness to his work. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. He loved gardening, writing, music and was an avid reader. He was known for his cheerful demeanor, unfailing optimism and broad sense of humor. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Jodi Gooding LaCrone of Tallahassee; sister, Margaret Rolfe of Holland, MI; daughter, Charlotte Adcock (Garth) of Lake Oswego, OR; sons, Theodore LaCrone (Amy Tague) of Winthrop, ME and David LaCrone (Caitlin Horsmon) of Kansas City, MO; step-daughters, Christine Rauh (David) and Letreze Gooding both of Tallahassee and grandchildren, Elizabeth Adcock, Garth Adcock, Julia Tague-LaCrone, Anna Tague-LaCrone, Russell Rauh and Randall Rauh. He is preceded in death by his son, Frederic LaCrone and first wife, Peggy LaCrone. A service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Monday, April 16 at 5 p.m. St. John's Episcopal Church, Tallahassee, FL.
