Florence A. Hepding, age 102, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at her residence. Florence was born in Racine, July 9, 1915, daughter of the late Nels and Eleanor (Nee: Jensen) Andersen.

On September 8, 1943 she was united in marriage to John Hepding who preceded her in death, November 9, 1982. In the early 50’s Florence was instrumental in starting Racine’s first preschool located at the Douglas Community Center. In her earlier years she was employed by Hamilton Beach, C & W Haumersen Grocery, Masiks Wholesale Meats, and Elmer Mack. She was devoted to her family and was actively involved chaperoning school events, car pooling, serving as a Brownie Leader and Sunday school Teacher at Bethel Methodist Church. She also loved playing cards, square dancing, dining and traveling, vacationing in the western states and upon retirement, Florida. Most of all she was compassionate with a keen sense of humor, integrity, and a strong work ethic. She will be fondly remembered for kicking off each holiday season with a fabulous Christmas party.

Florence is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila (John) Westrich of Racine.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

A special thank you to the staff at Home Harbor and Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
