Evan Michael Hughes, 64, of Paw Paw, MI, died February 4, 2019 in Kalamazoo MI. He was born September 13, 1954 in Coshocton, OH, son of the Reverend Canon John Charles and Laverne Jean Hughes. Evan graduated from Elston High school in Michigan City, IN and went on to attend Kalamazoo College where he earned his Bachelor's degree in history ('76). During his time at Kalamazoo College he studied abroad in Beirut, Lebanon. His time there had a deep impact on his life in both his interest in the Middle East and his work with refugees later on in life in Kalamazoo. He worked many years at the Eaton Corporation as a Global Marketing Strategy and Sales Manager. Later on in his professional career he worked at the Social Security and Disability Office. He was deeply involved in the Paw Paw community. He served as an AYSO coach for many years, sharing his love of the game others. For the last 20 years he also served as "THE voice" of Paw Paw High School soccer. He also was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church where his vocal talents were featured as both a reader and in the choir. Surviving are his mother, Laverne Hughes, his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Jean Hughes, son Jonathan (Marian) Hughes, daughters, Kathryn Hughes and Rebecca Hughes, sister Susan (Robert) Wright, nieces and nephews Adam (Victoria) Wright and Brian (Christina) Wright, and his beloved cat Pebbles. Evan was preceded in death by his father, John Hughes. Services will be held at St. Marks' Episcopal Church, Paw Paw, on Saturday, February 16th with Rev. Rebecca Crise officiating. Visitation will take place at St. Mark's starting at 9:30 with the funeral taking place at 11:00. A lunch will be served following the service.
