Eugene Braun

Eugene Edwin "Gene" Braun, age 81, of Portage, Michigan passed away at home on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Gene was born on August 23, 1935, in Ann Arbor, MI. He graduated from U-High in Ann Arbor. On September 7, 1958, he married Judy J. Jordan and they were married for 43 years. Gene worked as a salesman for 25 years at Sears in Kalamazoo, MI. He enjoyed watching UM football, Tigers baseball, and the Lions, and also working in the yard. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Gene is survived by his significant other, Virginia "Ginny" Jackson; his children: son Mark (Jeannie) Braun of Cumberland, Rhode Island, daughter Lesley Stewart of Portage, and daughter Julie Braun of New Boston, MI, and Ginny's daughters, Julie (Sven) Sorenson and Kristin Jackson; ten grandchildren: Danielle, Megan, Nathan, Chelsea, Justin, Julden, Zander, Skyler, Jaden, and Ashlee; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Baumen of Valier, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: father Edwin G. Braun and mother Ruth K. McKernan Braun, and his wife, Judy J. Jordan Braun. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
