Esther C. Kammien, age 86, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Ridgewood Care Center. Esther was born in Mount Pleasant, May 18, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nee: Vernel) Mandli.

On April 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Jack D. Kammien who preceded her in death, April 27, 1997. She will be remembered fondly for her singing while doing the dishes, her fashion design drawings, cheering on her kids and her great love and devotion to her family.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Kathy Running, Karen (Joseph) Covelli, Sherry Olszewski, Susan (Gregg) Pofahl, Lorri Kammien, Jack (Heather) Kammien, Lynn Kammien; fourteen grandchildren, Jacklyn Larson (Andy Jansta), Perry (Danielle) Running, Emilio (Becky) Covelli, Nicoletta (Steve) Krack, Paulina (Dean) Aceto, Wally Olszewski (Chelsy Hammill), Aaron (Amanda) Olszewski, Scott Pofahl, Sarah Pofahl (Kevin Bednar), Jack and Eliza Kammien, Michael Zember, Randy Zember (Allison Smith), Terry “TJ” (Brielle) Kammien Jr., Brady Kammien; 17 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jenny Kammien; brothers, Paul (Rosemary) Mandli, Alex (Jean) Mandli; sisters-in-law, Jean Mandli, Beverly Mandli; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son Terry Kammien; brothers, Stephen (Julia) Mandli, Joseph (Gloria) Mandli, Frank (Ann) Mandli, John Mandli, Peter Mandli; sisters, Mary (Edmond) Buisse, Elizabeth (Edward) Dahse Sr., Julia (Walter) Wozniak, Anna (Ora) Putman, and Helen Mandli.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday March 11, 2017, 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to ALS or Alzheimer’s Foundation have been suggested by the family.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to some very special people at Ridgewood Care Center: nurse Kim, CNA’s Gloria and Dan, activity director “Esther’s adopted daughter” Crystal for their loving and compassionate care.
