Emma E. Ockert, 90, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at her home. Emma was born on July 19, 1927 in Flint, MI to the late Owen and Cecilia (Richards) Swainston.

She married Claude Charles Ockert, on January 14, 1946.

She worked at the State Hospital and at Sara Lee, as well as, with her husband in their Carpenter Shop, stripping and refurnishing antique furniture for the Grand Traverse community.

Emma loved to play euchre, knit beautiful baby blankets for her grandchildren, and cook dishes for Immaculate Conception funerals. Her most favorite thing to do was visit with family, friends and neighbors. She always said, “I’m so blessed to have people that love me and care about me”.

Emma is survived by her Son, Claude (Rosalinda) Ockert, of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Claude (Kimberly) Ockert, of Kingsley, John (Melissa) Ockert, and Kenneth (Kristen) Ockert of Traverse City; and eight great-grandchildren, Claude N., Clay, Olivia, Dillon, Carter, Logan, Peyton and Emma Elizabeth. Emma is also survived by her sister, Darlena (Ben) Walters, of Kewadin, a brother-in-law, Alan Cleland, and three sisters-in-law Vivian Ockert, Rita Sedlacek and Teresa VanPelt, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Ockert, her parents, Owen and Cecilia Swainston, and sisters, Gladys Ockert, Juanita Grubaugh and Ruth Swainston.
