Elsie Miller

94, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born July 7, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Walter and Helma (Hansen) Miller. Elsie married James Richard "Dick" Mahar of Allegan in 1949. Dick passed away suddenly in 1969. She married Frank L. Green of Allegan in 1970, he passed away in 1979. Elsie then married Harold R. Miller of Kalamazoo in 1981, he passed away in 1998. Elsie lived in Chicago, IL., until she was five years old, when her family moved to Monee, IL. Her family then moved to Allegan after World War II. As a young woman she aspired to become a nurse until rheumatic fever unfortunately caused her to leave nursing school during her first year. She worked for Western Union, the Allegan County Health Department, and then later operated a telephone answering service within her home in Allegan for 30 years. She displayed her passion for helping others throughout her life. Elsie always had a smile and kind word to share. Elsie is survived by her children, Larry Mahar and Carol (Roger) Geving; granddaughter, Michele Geving; and nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter Miller, Jr. A memorial service will take place in the KIVA at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo on March 3, at 2 p.m. Her family would like to thank Langeland Family Funeral Homes and the staff at Friendship Village for arranging Elsie's memorial service. A private interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan. Elsie was fond of many organizations, especially Rose Arbor of Kalamazoo and the Friendship Village Friends Fund.
