"Betty" Rose Magyar, 94, of Paw Paw, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Bronson Commons Nursing Home in Mattawan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday January 16, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw, 209 S. Brown St., Paw Paw, MI with Father Robert Creagan officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Those wishing to leave an online condolence in Betty's name may do so at www.newellchapel.com Betty was born on August 1, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the oldest of six children born to John and Elizabeth (Kompass) Wagner. She was Valedictorian of her high school class, even though she could only speak German on entry into grammar school. Elizabeth was employed in Paw Paw for most of her working career as a medical assistant for Arthur Steele, M.D. and John Tapper, Inc. as a bookkeeper. After retirement, she was an active volunteer at Lawton Nursing Home and the Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paw Paw. Betty enjoyed reading, travel and playing Bridge. She was a caring and good friend to many. On February 15, 1947, Elizabeth married Frank Magyar, of Decatur, who died in 1983. Together they had two children, Francis M. (Rose) Magyar M.D. of Newberry, MI and attorney John F. (Annette) Magyar of Dowagiac, MI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rose (Jon) Gillesby, Gina (Steve) Magyar-Russell, Mark (Megan) Magyar, Toni (Rob Bellinger) Magyar, Elizabeth Magyar, Jennifer (Justin) Marlowe, Anne (Christ) Prill, Frank (Christina) Magyar, Mary (Tim) Fillmore, Michael Magyar and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara Johnson of Paw Paw and Rosalind Wagner of Las Vegas, NV and sister-in-law Mary Wagner of Watertown, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings John Wagner, Ann Sigardson and Frances Bonomo.
