Electa Glowe

Electa Glowe, 97, a long time resident of Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18th at Rose Arbor Hospice. Electa was born on December 11, 1917 in Hillsdale, Michigan to George and Iva (Sargent) Keyes. She graduated from Hillsdale High School and later married her classmate, Edward Glowe, on June 28th, 1936. Electa and Edward moved to Portage in 1954. Together they raised five children. She loved playing cards, trips up north, bowling, and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. Electa enjoyed working at Wagner’s Dress Shop for 26 years and retired at the age of 80. She was an excellent cook and loved large family dinners. Electa was preceded in death by Edward in 1992. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Gary and Billie Glowe, Warsaw, IN, Bob and Sandy Erikson, Kalamazoo, MI, Jerry and Alicia Glowe, Jacksonville, FL, Dick and Sue Ann Coffinger, Portage, MI, and Dave and Melissa VanderMeeden, Portage, MI. She leaves nine grandchildren: Greg (Sandy) Glowe, Ben (Sandy) Glowe, Stacey (Brad) Dayton, Amy (Tim) Meyer, Kyle (Tracy) Coffinger, Evan and Clay VanderMeeden, Helena Monroe and Patricia (Nathan) Thorp. She is also survived by several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Fort Custer Cemetery on Friday, September 25th at noon. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Rose Arbor Hospice for the incredible care and respect they demonstrated to their mother and to all of them.
