Elaine Catherine Arndt, age 89, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Ascension All Saints Hospital. She was born in Blue Island, IL, September 4, 1928 daughter of the late Martin and Susanna (Nee:Welter) Bennick and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady.

On August 23, 1953 at St. Benedict Church in Blue Island, IL she was united in Marriage to Robert E. Arndt who preceded her in death February 12, 2010. Elaine was a longtime member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. She and Bob enjoyed their many travels to national parks and throughout the country. She was an avid bridge player who enjoyed long walks, bike rides, puzzle books, playing blackjack and trips to Vegas. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very supportive of her kids and grandkids. She attended many of their school and sports activities. She treasured time spent with her family especially time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son, James (Debbie) Arndt of Caledonia; daughter, Jean (James) Dewinski of Riverside, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Arndt of New York City, NY and Gary (Sarah) Arndt of Racine; great granddaughter, Jordyn; nephew, Robert (Cynthia) Gruenwald; nieces, Ellen (Chris) Allar and Amy (John) Johnson; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her daughter Susan in 1976 and her sister Shirley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave, Tuesday May 29, 2018, 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Rich O’Leary officiating. Interment will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Rita’s Catholic Church have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Elaine’s caregiver Emma for her loving and compassionate care.
