Edna O. Fry, age 86 of Portage, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior at Bickford Cottage Senior Living February 24, 2019. She was born August 28, 1932, in Leland, Michigan, to Otto and Edna (Decker) Hohnke. On July 17, 1954, Edna married Harold C. Fry. They were longtime members of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. Edna retired as a Comptroller from Old Kent Bank and later worked at Sam's Club. She volunteered at Kairos Dwelling and the Peacock Outreach. Using her beautiful gifts, Edna knitted hundreds hats and sweaters and made numerous quilts for missions. Since 2000, Edna generously sent 5-10 care packages a week to deployed soldiers. She touched so many hearts and lives with her actions and loving gifts. Edna's family includes her children: John Fry of Portage, Karen (William) Crane of Plainwell, and Linda Fry of Portage; her daughter-in-law Sherry Hohnke; her grandchildren: Christopher and Adrienne Hohnke, Amber Crane, Amanda Juarez, Katrina (Dominick) Lombardo, and Cathlynn Crane; her great-grandchildren: Vincent Juarez and Saverio Lombardo ; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Fry, her adopted son Michael Hohnke, and her brothers Carl and Arthur Hohnke. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, February 28 2019, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 1st at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Drive, with Rev. Dr. Paul R. Naumann officiating, with an hour of visitation prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held Fort Custer National Cemetery.
