Earl W. Morin, age 86, of Kankakee, passed away on Thursday, May 02, 2013 at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Earl was born on August 7, 1926 to Carl and Viola (Sauberli) Morin in Kankakee. He proudly served his county in World War II as a Corporal of the United States Army Aircorp from March of 1944 until October 1946. He worked in maintenance at Swift Refinery for 13 years before his retirement in 1980. He was a life-long member of the American Legion and served every office, he was the Kankakee American Legion County Commander, a founding member of the Vintage Squadron, the first International Affairs Commander for the American Legion in the State of Illinois, a member of the Kankakee Blackhawk Drum and Bugler Corp., Commander of Junior Drum and Bugle Corp., the Manager of the Kankakee Junior Achievement Program for 8 years. He enjoyed restoring old farm equipment, boating and reading historical information. Recently, he resided at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Manteno where he enjoyed being involved in several of the veteran’s councils, enjoyed making friends and participating in the social aspects of the home.

Earl is survived by two sons, Glenn Morin of Kankake and Dennis Morin of Kankake; one daughter, Sandra (Jack) Crim of Kankakee; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, William Morin of New Jersey. Earl was preceded in death by, two brothers, Glenn and Paul Morin; one sister, Martha Wikgren and his parents.

A gathering time for friends and family will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home’s Kankakee Chapel. Burial will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Manteno in Earl’s name.
