74, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, March 19, 2018. He was born August 30, 1943 to the late Thomas and Henrietta (Zuidema) Triemstra. Duane was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Haigler, the mother of his 3 sons, who preceded him in death in August of 2011. He later was united in marriage to Charla Smith, who survives. Duane was born and raised in Kalamazoo and attended Kalamazoo Christian Schools and Western Michigan University. He served in the U.S. Army, including service in Vietnam, from October of 1968 until he was honorably discharged in August of 1970. After obtaining his law degree from Wayne State University, he worked for the County of Kalamazoo as the County Attorney for over 30 years. Duane was active in local charities, loved to travel, play golf, spend time with family, and occasionally be a goofball. For the last decade, Duane has spent winters in Arizona, playing golf and games with fellow retirees. Duane was deeply rooted in his faith, honesty, and integrity. Beloved father, admired friend, and a devoted husband, he will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Duane is survived by his wife, Charla Smith; children, Scott Triemstra, Kevin Triemstra and Daniel (Amanda) Triemstra; grandchildren, Michaela, Ryan, Ethan and Chloe; siblings, Ronald (Linda) Triemstra and Sharon (Jim) Modderman; and several nieces and nephews. Duane was also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard (Jean) Triemstra and David Triemstra. A memorial service will take place on Monday, March 26, 2:00 PM at Calvary Reformed Church, 7829 5th St, Mattawan, MI 49071. The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 25th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo. A private interment will be in Ft.
