Lyne, Dr. E. Dennis "Denny" 12/21/1936 - 9/15/2018 Chicago Dr. Everett Dennis "Denny" Lyne, age 81, passed away peacefully at home in Chicago, IL on September 15, 2018. Denny was born in Jersey City, NJ to Ruth and Everett Lyne. He earned his A.B. from Colgate University in 1957, and his M.D. from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1961. While at The Johns Hopkins he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy "Dee" Evans Lyne. He completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and his Residency in Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his residency in General Surgery at Baltimore City Hospital. He also served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. Denny went on to have a distinguished career in academic and clinical medicine, devoting his practice to caring for children and training young surgeons. In Kalamazoo, under the auspices of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, he served as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Chairman of the Orthopaedic Residency Programs for many years, where he carefully chose and trained young surgeons. Prior to that, he was the Head of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit; Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan (his daughter-in-law insisted on including this); an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern School of Medicine; and the Director of the Multi-Disciplinary Care Clinic at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He published dozens of academic journal articles contributing to scholarly research, primarily on issues related to children's orthopaedics and the care of the multiply disabled. Indeed, reading his 14-page CV can make even the most successful person feel lazy. Denny spent much time restoring and tending the Garden of the Five Senses in Kalamazoo, MI, a multi-sensory garden aimed at providing enrichment to children with multiple disabilities. In addition to gardening, Denny loved his horses, sailboats, holidays, Gull Lake, listening to music, the occasional scotch and laughing at goofball movies like "Animal House." And of course, he cherished time with his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy "Dee" Lyne of Chicago, IL; his children Paisley Knudsen (Larry) of Roswell, GA, Deirdre Churchill (George) of Elmhurst, IL, and Dan Lyne (Kristin) of Glen Ellyn, IL, as well as grandchildren Dennis Stevens; Ethan, Elliott, Julian and Maeve Churchill; and Henry Lyne. He was preceded in death by his parents and many pets. A service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13th @2PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 393 N Main St, Glen Ellyn, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the very special children's garden that Denny cherished and helped restore. Adults love the garden as well, and all continue to enjoy it as a very special place. Donations can be made by mail to the Garden of the Five Senses, c/o Kalamazoo Community Foundation, 402 E. Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49007-3888 or online at https://tinyurl.com/yd8xt5w4 We will miss him forever. "Stay calm. Be well." -Denny
