Douglas Earl "Doug" Weiser of Richland, MI, age 91, died on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Battle Creek (MI) Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospice Residence. Doug, the son of Earl and Marian (Roberts) Weiser, was born in Iron Mountain, MI on November 1, 1925; moved to the Richland area in 2004 from Plymouth, MI and had spent 20 years in East Lansing, MI. He was a 1943 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and received his Masters Degree from Wayne State University. Doug served his Country honorably and nobly during World War II in the United States Army as a Private First Class. He was with the 349th Infantry Regiment of the 88th Division in the Po Valley, Northern Apennines and Rome-Arno Campaigns and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received during his combat duty. Doug retired in 1986 from the Wayne County Library System after 20 years of faithful service as a Publicist. Doug was united in marriage to the former, Elizabeth Jean Palmer in Lansing on November 27, 1948 and she sadly preceded him in death on March 8. 2009. Surviving are three daughters, Marybeth W. (Franklin) Reese of Hickory Corners, MI, Jaime Claire (Rick) Love of Sonoma, CA and Jennifer Joan (Leno) Filippi of Lexington, MA; two sons, Kurt Douglas (Christy) Weiser of Tempe, AZ and Thomas Earl Weiser of San Francisco, CA; eight grandchildren and a great grandson. Doug was also preceded in death by his parents. The Graveside Service to celebrate Doug's life was held on Wednesday, May 17th at Noon at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI, with the United States Army Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug's honor may be directed to the Battle Creek Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospice Residence, 5500 Armstrong Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel assisted Doug's family with his arrangements.
