Passed away peacefully on Monday evening February 10, 2020 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born May 30, 1942 in Comstock, Michigan to the late William and Anna (Rogers) Shrout. Douglas served with the U.S. Army from December of 1965 until honorably discharged in October of 1967. On October 18, 1968, he was united in marriage to Phyllis A. Sipsma. He had been a lifelong resident of Comstock and was employed with Kal-Blue Reprographics for 37 years before retiring as a co-owner. Douglas was a former member of Haven Reformed Church before attending Northeastern Baptist Church. In retirement, Doug loved spending summers with his wife, granddaughters, and friends at their home in Kline's Resort. Douglas was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Shrout; brothers-in-law, Jack Hudson, Dale Scott and Ralph Simpson. Douglas is survived by his wife of 51 years Phyllis A. (Sipsma) Shrout; his son, William Shrout of Comstock; 2 granddaughters, Hanna and Jade; siblings, Virginia (Dick) Beardsley, Louise Hudson, Tiwana (Jake) Pullin, and Frances Simpson all of Comstock; Mary Scott of Galesburg; and sister-in-law, Willodean Shrout of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 2-4pm Sunday, February 16th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Private interment with military honors will take place in Comstock Cemetery at a later date.
