Doris (Schilling) Abel

(SCHILLING) Doris M. Abel, age 90, of Rockford, formerly of Allendale, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008 at Spectrum Health United Memorial in Greenville. She was born November 30, 1917 in Georgetown Township, the daughter of William and Mary Schilling. A graduate of Mercy Central School of Nursing, Doris loved her working years as an RN at Ferguson Hospital, Kent Community Hospital, and the Grand Rapids Veteran's Hospital. In her retirement, she enjoyed various craft projects, and along with her husband spent many volunteer hours in her church, Forgotten Man's Ministries, and Love Inc. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, sons, Kenneth and David, her parents and brothers, Arthur, Howard and Harold Schilling, and all in-laws. She is survived by three sons, Roger (Faith) Abel of Greenville, MI, Keith (Jane) Abel of Richland, WA, and Gary Abel of Whitewright, TX. Also, six grandchildren, Cindy (Colin) Abel Morris of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Tammie) Abel of El Cerrito, CA, Caitlin Abel of Federal Way, WA, Erica Abel of Tacoma, WA, Tim (Colleen) Abel of Minneapolis, MN, Joel Abel of Waukegan, WI; plus three great-grandchildren, Isabel and Isaac Morris of Albuquerque, NM and Isaiah Muhammad of Tacoma, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Cook Funeral Home, Jenison, 1889 Baldwin with Pastor Jerrold T. Jones of First Congregational Church of Greenville officiating. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to services Thursday at the Cook Funeral Home, Jenison.
