Doris Chopp

Age 95, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020. Doris was born in Kalamazoo on July 24, 1924, the daughter of Wayne Herbert and Delta Breta (Bailey) Wilson. Doris lived for 70 years in the same home on West L Avenue. She worked about 40 years for the Kalamazoo Public Schools, retiring at age 70. Most of those years were at Parkwood-Upjohn Elementary School as Secretary to the Principal. Doris was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers, and of pro-golfers, Phil Mickleson and Freddie Couples. She enjoyed bowling on a team for many years, casino time and lottery tickets. She loved the show "Blue Bloods." The family would like to thank Niki and Kalyn Popp for the extraordinary, compassionate care they provided for Doris in her final years. Doris is survived by her children, Brian (Lisa) Buckhout of Kalamazoo and Lana Buckhout (Norm) Melzer of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Jason Buckhout, Niki Popp, Nick Melzer, Jessica Frazier, Sara Melzer and Taylor Buckhout; great-grandchildren, Kalyn Popp, Jason Buckhout Jr., Briana Buckhout, Trenton Popp, Addison Popp, James Frazier, Ronan Melzer, Caitlin Melzer, Aedan Melzer; sister, Maryan Carter; nieces, Caryle Wilson-Anger, Janice Heretick, Betty Phillips and Denise Gray. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard Wilson, and Wilbur Wilson; sister Vena Colburn. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park, 3941 S. Westnedge, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, c/o the funeral home.
