Donald J. Smith, 84, beloved husband of Marilyn (Winslow), father of Stephen, Margaret and Julie, (from his first marriage), Grandfather and Great –Grandfather passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Eve 2016. Don also left behind his beloved little dog, “Baby.”

Born on February 27, 1932 to Nat and Ruth Smith, Don was the 5th born child of eight children. His siblings are Richard, James, Barbara, Beverly, Natalie, Kathrine and Kenneth. Don was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, James, Richard and Kenneth. His sister Beverly passed away unexpectedly on the 26th of December 2016 at her home in Florida.

Don served in the U.S Army in Korea. He received many medals including the Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart. Don was very proud of all his medals. He was especially pleased to have received his ribbon for being an Expert Rifle Shot and his Paratrooper ribbon.

The majority of his work life was at Andrew Corp. in Orland Park, IL. He began work for them when the business was working out of a garage. Don learned to be a tool and die maker and absolutely loved his work. He retired from Andrew in February of 1994.

Don loved the game of golf and also loved to bowl. He golfed and bowled with his many friends in Illinois and with the many friends he made when he and Marilyn lived on Arizona.

Sadly, Don was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s while in Arizona. He and Marilyn fought the very difficult battle against this awful disease for well over 10 years, hand in hand, side by side.

After almost 22 years of marriage a very deeply loved husband went to be with the Lord. Don will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
