Age 75, passed away on July 27, 2020. Don was born in Batavia, New York on September 1, 1946, the son of Richard and Beatrice (Gabriel) Ryan. Don enlisted in the United States Air force after graduating from high school and served a long and storied career of 27.5 years. He was an extremely dedicated volunteer during and after his career to many organizations around the globe, including Boy Scouts of America, Gryphon Place, Area Agency on Aging, Kiwanis International, Senior Services in Kalamazoo, and the Red Cross . His service in the community was well known and appreciated for his dedication. He found time when not volunteering to enjoy computers, wood working, and writing. Don leaves a legacy of service around the local community and the United States. Don married Joyce on March 17, 1995 and most recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. He and Joyce did everything together and were a team to be reckoned with. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Ryan and step-brother, Neil Ryan. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce, his children, Donald (Kristen) Ryan and Teresa Carson, step-daughter Jennifer VanDoren and his wonderful grandchildren, Finn and Egan Ryan, William and Ryan Prewitt and Madison VanDoren, his sister, Donna (David) West, step-brother, John (Michelle) Ryan and step-sister, Laura (David) Haynes. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a private memorial will be held. Don will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery during a private ceremony. A public memorial will be held in the near future when it is deemed safe to do so. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the educational expenses of his granddaughter, Madison, c/o the funeral home.
