Deborah S. Dycus

Deborah “Debbie” Dycus aged 66 passed away on Sunday April 30th 2017 surrounded by her five children after a brief battle with cancer. Debbie dealt with her cancer as she dealt with most of the hardships in her life with humor and a smile.

Debbie was born on November 23rd 1950 in Monmouth Illinois the eighth child of John and Mary Stivers and lived most of her life in Monmouth on the “wrong side of the tracks”. She is preceded in death by two husbands Martin Kirby Dycus and Norman Lawson McKeown, and brothers Wendell and Jack Stivers both of Monmouth. She is survived by her remaining brothers and sisters – Beverly, Jim, Sharon, Pam, Diana, Michael and David, her children Sean, Eric (Rayanne), Jeff (Meredith) Chris (Leticia) and Heather. She is also survived by one pain in the ass dog.

Debbie worked in various positions throughout her life including a stint at Wilson Foods, Western Stoneware (The Pottery) and at the Monmouth Country Club. She often said she worked like a man her whole life and greatly enjoyed giving all of her bosses a hard time. Her last job was working at Carriage House Liquor in Racine where she had many regular customers.

Debbie loved her grandbabies Jack, Caleb, Maggie, Reagan, Georgia, Donovan and she spoiled them like crazy. Her favorite rule was that there were no rules at Grandma’s house. She loved cooking Thanksgiving dinner, creating Christmas memories, planting flowers, and listening to the Blues. Music was in her soul and she enjoyed attending concerts and rarely missed The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival.

Debbie was never rich in the normal sense of the word and she wore being poor as a badge of honor. She worked hard, lived honestly, laughed easily and gave generously. She always put others before herself and by being genuine she made friends easily. She was indeed rich in those who cared about her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday May 6th, 2017, 11:00 AM., Mound Cemetery 1147 West Blvd, Racine WI 53405 followed by a home going party which will be held at 5th Street Yacht Club, 12:00 PM – 3:30 PM 761 Marquette Street, Racine WI 53404. In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested to the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Heartland Hospice team for the love, care and respect that they showered on mom until the end.
