Batey, Deborah Marie Kalamazoo Went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 16, 2017. Age 57. Deborah was born in Kalamazoo on June 5, 1959. She received her Bachelors Degree from North Park University in Chicago and was most recently employed as Clinical Director for Alternatives of Kalamazoo. She was a member of Oakwood Bible Church, where she was active in the children's ministry, Awana, served as a Sunday school teacher and was actively involved with Bible study fellowship. She was also active with Women's jail ministries, was an avid animal lover and volunteered with SPCA of Southwest Michigan. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, arts & crafts and bicycling. She loved canning and was famous for her homemade Ketchup. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert O. Batey; two children, Elizabeth (Eric) Rittenberry and Thomas (Aime Salas) Batey; her father and mother, Robert H. Parrish Sr. and Nancy J. Parrish; her brother, Robert H. (Sheryl) Parrish Jr.; her nephew, Nathan Parrish; and her mother-in-law, Marian Batey. Deborah was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Harold Batey; two aunts and two uncles, Jean Ellinger, Beth Lancaster, Jim Parrish and Jim Lancaster. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 19th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20th at Oakwood Bible Church, 4100 Oakland Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49008, with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. A reception will follow the service and interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alternatives of Kalamazoo or SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
