Welch, Dawn M. 8/5/1942 - 3/3/2019 Portage Passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2019, while on her annual, end of the season, PSS ski trip in Petoskey, MI. Dawn's heart unexplainably stopped while on the way back to the hotel after the first day of the trip. The first responders and the doctors successfully brought her back twice, but ultimately, she was ready to go be with Jesus. She was surrounded by so much love during her final moments; her children, grandchildren, nieces, all holding her hands while her soul sailed away, and a ski hill full of friends nearby, keeping her legacy going. She went peacefully, with a beautiful view of Petoskey Bay, and a stunning evening sunset. "Red sun at night, sailor's delight," as Dawn would say. An avid sailor, downhill skier, world traveler, dedicated healer, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; Adrian Charles Welch, Helen Belle Welch (Crosbie), and her sister Sandra Jean Wetherbee (Welch). She is survived by her two daughters, Emily Min Welch-Boyd (Michael Boyd), and Kaitlin J. Welch (Jake Haertel). Her beloved grandchildren; David, Tierra, Simone, Megan, Shawn, Emma, Amilya and Karen, three nieces; Debra (John), Barb, and Linda (Larry), her God children; Andrea, Matt and Alyssa, eight great nieces and nephews, four great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and her two very loved, very loyal pups, Hannah and Lydia. She has been brought from Petoskey, MI back to her hometown, Gobles, MI, to be laid to rest. The family will meet friends on Monday, March 11th from 2 PM until time of funeral service at 4 PM at the Gobles Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Dawn's beloved Program for Special Skiers, (P.S.S.,) thus ensuring the continuance of the program she founded and dedicated so much of her life to. Please mail checks to: Program for Special Skiers; 227 Union Street; Grand Ledge, MI 48837. Arrangements entrusted to D.L. Miller Funeral Home, www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com.
