It is with great sadness that the family of David James Smith announces his passing after a valiant battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Lee (Myers) Payne, his father Jack Lawrence Smith, his wife Barbara Jo Zwald, and his nephew Jason James Smith. Survived by his son, David James Smith II and granddaughters Launa and Calista, his daughter, Jennifer Lee Gallardo, his stepdaughter Chan (Brad) Smith and their children Maceo and Aja, and siblings Gordon Smith, Larry (Shelly) Smith, Cathy Douglas, Barbara (Mike) Davis, Debbie VanderReyden, Alice Brown, Ray Brown III and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 4, at 2 PM at the VFW Post 3030 (124 N Farmer St, Otsego, MI 49078).
