Although his time came to an end much too soon, David Drewek made a significant impact in the lives of everyone he met. A loving husband and father, he leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that his loved ones will forever cherish.

The 1950s were an exciting time in America. James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley became household names while shows like I Love Lucy and Father Knows Best changed the way we saw the average American family. There was also a time of great excitement in the lives of Clarence and Gloria (Lefler) Drewek as they announced the birth of the baby boy they named David Brian on July 20, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan. The youngest of three Drewek children, he was raised in the family home alongside his siblings, Peggy and Donald. David attended Osborn High School where he ran track.

After graduating from high school, David was eager for all that life had in store. He joined the United States Navy for six years, serving on the West Coast as well as in China and Japan. As a young man, David spent some time working as a runway model and limo driver and also as a truck dispatcher. During this time he married, and although he later divorced he was forever grateful for his two children, Brandon and Bradley.

New and exciting changes were in store for David when he was attending a singles function at Lincoln Country Club. There, he met Melissa Platt. They soon began dating, fell in love, and were married on Jan 2, 1998, at a Wyoming church. To their marriage, Melissa brought her daughter, Ashley, and together they were blessed with their son, Christian. Both he and Melissa took classes to become certified nurses aids. David then took a job at Spectrum Community Services where he worked for the last 12 years, which was a job he really loved. He was a hard working man, and he took his role as provider to heart. David’s family appreciated his skills in the kitchen, and he frequently cooked for his family. David’s specialists included his potatoes and sausage as well as his Italian and Chinese dishes.

Throughout his life David was a man of many interests. He was an avid Michigan sports fan as well as a fan of the Tigers, Red Wings, and NASCAR. David loved all the crime shows on TV like NCSI, CSI, Law & Order, and Chicago Fire as well as music of all kinds from classic rock to country, and he had an impressive collection of model trains, and even volunteered on the Marne to Coopersville Railroad. Brian loved gardening and tending to the yard as well as taking long walks with his dog, Riley.

Loving, dedicated, and fun-loving, David Dreweki lived a life of purpose while holding his loved ones near. He will never be forgotten.

David B. Dreweki, aged 57 of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Melissa Drewek; his children, Brandon Drewek, Ashley Platt, Bradley Drewek, Christian Drewek; his sister, Peggy (Jim) Begthol, Don (Delores) Drewek; many nieces, nephews and friends. David honorably served his country in the US Navy. He worked as a Certified Nursed Aid for Spectrum Community Services. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. A private family service will be held at a later date. To read more about David’s life, to sign his guest book and to leave your own memory of him, visit his web page at www.lifestorynet.com
