Daphne Ione Bailey Ambrose passed away on August 25, 2017. Ione was born October 15, 1927, the youngest daughter of L. Ward Bailey and Daphne (Snell) Bailey. She graduated from the Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1949, earned a BS in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota in 1956, and an MS degree from Western Michigan University in Educational Leadership with emphasis in Community Education. For over forty years, she participated in the Harvard Nurses' Health Study, which investigates the risk factors for major chronic diseases in women. In the fall of 2000, together with her husband, Haydn, she organized the Kalamazoo chapter of the national organization CHADD. She was the director of the Practical School of Nursing, which was sponsored by Kalamazoo Public Schools. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Haydn; three sisters and two brothers, Arthur M. Bailey (Thirza), Florence C. Penchoen (Henry), Bernice G. Hamill (Ken), Dorothy B. Lundy (Robert) and Herbert Snell Bailey, who died as an infant; and niece, Karen Lundy. She was married to W. Haydn Ambrose on March 5, 1971, joining two families. Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Diana R. Ball (Nick), Nancy M. Gallagher (Terry), Brian W. Ambrose (Tonja) and Ross E. Ambrose. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Logan Wilson-Ambrose (Brett), Bill Gallagher and Mary Kathleen Gallagher; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held in First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South St., Kalamazoo, on Wednesday, August 30th at 1:00pm. The family will greet friends at the church from 12-1:00pm just prior to the service. Burial will be a private ceremony in Mt. Ever-Rest South Park in Kalamazoo, Rev. Seth Weeldreyer officiating.
