Dan Carlin Gwyn was born in Flint, Michigan on March 4, 1927, and passed away at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, on April 12, 2017 at 11:30 P.M.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Jefferson and Helen Margaret (Carlin) Gwyn. Dan is survived by his wife Jacquelyn (Spahr, Eder) Gwyn, their 40th wedding anniversary to have been this coming October. He is also survived by his sister Louise Gerstner of Kalamazoo, and by all his children and their families: Jan (Ermin) Gornik (Hannah, Martha, and Noelle) of Ann Arbor; Julie (Marc) Courville (Alex and Rachel) of Grawn; Lee Ellen Gwyn of Grawn; James D. Eder of Fenton, and Kenneth A. (Shannon) Eder (Kenneth J., Gregory, Gavin, Dylan and Alex) of Kingsley. Dan also had special love for, and from, nephew Kenneth M. Spahr of Utica and niece Julie (Renwick) Hungerford of Fenton.

Dan graduated from Flint Northern in January 1945, where upon he joined the Navy in February 1945, eventually serving in the radar room of the U.S.S. Kearsarge CV-33. Returning home he graduated with a B.A. in 1950 from Kalamazoo College where he became proficient with the javlin and was involved in other track and field events and had lots of fun stories of learning to referee Class A-B-C basketball.

Dan eventually joined his father's sign painting business in Flint on Saginaw Street, then enlarged it into Gwyn Truck Equipment on Bristol road and then to the new building on Dort Highway until he sold it to Scientific Brake in the 1960's.

Dan started a second career in accounting for small businesses and corporations thru the franchise General Business Services, first in the Flint area and then in 1975 in the Traverse City area , eventually breaking out on his own as Business Management Services. Dan finally retired from that business at the golden age of 83.

Dan was a life member of the National Skeet Shooting Association, making state (Michigan) championship in the 1960's and obtaining many wins and trophies in all categories in that decade. Dan was active in both the Elk Rapids and the Cedar gun clubs, was a certified NSSA Skeet Instructor, and authored a pamphlet 202 Skeet.

Dan was also a strong believer in blood donation, having given a whopping 27 gallons by age 82 in 2009, impacting 675 lives.

Cremation has already taken place. Dan's fantastic 90th Birthday Party on March 3rd will serve as the best sendoff party anyone could wish for. A private service will be held later this summer to inter his ashes, to be followed by an RSVP celebration of his life (pig-roast bash) for everyone at the Eder Camp in Kingsley.
