Corrie Petersen

Petersen, Corrie Ellen Corrie Ellen (De Groot) (Zweedyk) Petersen, age 41, passed away October 26, 2021. She was born in Kalamazoo on April 8, 1980. She was lovingly raised by her mother and father, Joyce and Michael Zweedyk. Corrie attended KVCC, where she received certificates as a Software Specialist, Office Support Specialist, Word Processing Specialist, and Administrative Support in April 2009. She continued pursuing of education and obtained her Associate's Degree in Applied Science, Administrative Assistant, in May of 2017. She continued at Central Michigan University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, emphasizing in Social Work. Corrie had a smile that could light up a room. She worked as a Case Manager for A.S.K. in Kalamazoo. Her families treasured her, and she worked diligently as an advocate for other families' children as if they were her own. Corrie was preceded in death by grandparents Peter and Louise De Groot, grandmother, Virginia Zweedyk, and Uncle Ron De Groot. Corrie is survived by her husband, Cary Petersen; children, Matthew (Breonna) Petersen, Koy Petersen, and Rayne Petersen; grandchildren, Eric and Spencer; parents Joyce and Michael Zweedyk; and Aunt Shirley Leith. A celebration of Corrie's life will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002, where the family will greet friends one hour prior from 11:00am until the time of the service. Corrie's heart was larger and sweeter than anyone's. She gave her all to her family, friends, and families that she worked with. She didn't call them clients-they were her families. She didn't just work with children, she worked with the entire family. Through her career, she was honored to speak at several conferences in Washington, D.C., Florida, and California.
