"Well done, good and faithful servant" were undoubtedly the words heard by Cornelius "Neil" Kuivenhoven Friday morning. Neil, 98, of Fort Myers Florida, formerly of Kalamazoo, MI went home to be with his Savior on January 10, 2020. Neil was born September 10, 1921, the eldest son of Jacob and Jennie Kuivenhoven. A WWII veteran, Neil served in the Navy as a SeaBee from 5/11/1942- 10/22/1945.While on leave in 1944 he married the love of his life, Marie Baas. They spent over 51 years together and raised three children. They enjoyed camping trips, traveling and spending time at Sandy Pines Recreational Community. After retirement from James River (Sutherland) Paper Company, where he worked as an electrician, Neil and Marie moved to Florida. Marie passed away from cancer in 1996. Neil married Dolores Fetzer in 1998 and they have shared over 21 years of fond memories. They enjoyed walks, leisure activities and loving companionship through their later years in life. Neil was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his brothers Adrian Kuivenhoven and Jacob Kuivenhoven, and brother-in-laws Robert Schippers and Glen Phillips. He is survived by his wife Dolores, his children; Patricia Furhman (Terry Roek) of Tennesee, Larry (Sandy) Kuivenhoven of West Bloomfield, and Lynda (Bill) Richter of Saranac, his brother Peter G. Kuivenhoven, his sisters Angie Schippers, and Connie Phillips, his sister-in-law Rosemary Kuivenhoven, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. At his specific request, no service will be held. He was a quiet man wishing to be remembered in quiet passing. Cremation has taken place with interment at Mt. Everest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo.
