Christine Smith

Christine E. Smith, 61, of Buchanan, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Swem Chapel and Cremation Services, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI. Friends my visit from noon until the time of the service. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Art Center.

She was born on July 14, 1955 in Kalamazoo, MI to Chris and R. Ivan Cronkhite. On August 9, 1975 she married Roger Smith in Parchment, MI. Christine and her husband moved to Buchanan, MI, soon after their marriage. Christine received college degrees from Southwestern Michigan College, Indiana University at South Bend and Western Michigan University with a Master Degree in social work. She was a state certified social worker in both Indiana and Michigan. She worked in both the medical and counseling areas of social work.

Christine had many interests with art as the most enjoyable. She painted in both pastel and watercolor. She was a member of the Buchanan Art Center, the South Bend Museum of Art and the Northern Indiana Pastel Society. Christine also enjoyed landscape photography. This skill was beneficial with her many visits to the Western National Parks.

Christine is survived by her husband of 41 years, Roger; father, R. Ivan; two sisters, Mary Caley of Kalamazoo and Lois Bach of Otsego, MI and one brother, Michael Caley of Kalamazoo, MI.
